Spread the Love Food DriveSeptember has been named Hunger Action Month by Feeding America. Throughout the month, their nationwide network of more than 200 food banks is calling upon their communities to take action to end childhood hunger.

In Northwest Indiana, the food bank is conducting a food drive called Spread the Love and is calling upon the community to donate 100,000 jars of Peanut Butter (a definite Good Giving item).  This is the number the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana had to purchase in 2009. If they meet this goal, it will allow the bank to take the money it would have had to spend on peanut butter, and put it towards buying other nutritious foods.

Luckily for the food bank, 24 public and private schools with over 14,000 students have accepted their challenge and plan to run food drives from September 1 - September 30. Schools will be competing to see which school can raise the most jars of peanut butter, will take part in hunger education and will vie to see which student can create a winning hunger-relief video.

Beyond the goal to raise 100,000 jars of peanut butter, the food bank wants to let kids know that every little bit helps and that they truly can make a difference in their community. That's a message worth spreading.

We can’t wait to see the amazing results at the end of September!
