A Tool to Help Schools Build Hunger Awareness

Who doesn’t love a “two birds with one stone” scenario?

Well, no matter how you choose to fight hunger at your school (whether it’s one of our "Ways to Fight" or a unique way your school has brainstormed) you've hit two with one! Your work is not only directly helping feed the hungry in your community but with each project you also build community awareness.

Many people don’t quite understand the toll hunger is taking on individuals right in their own town.  Any education and awareness you bring to your school, community and state can help encourage additional support for the cause.

That is why, today, I want to share a wonderful resource your school can use to continue to educate those around you.

Feeding America developed an online tool called Map the Meal Gap where you can find localized hunger statistics for your state and even county. Through this interactive map, you can easily figure out the percentage of people struggling with food insecurity in your community.

Why not take some time during your next school project to share this local information.  The facts and figures will not only help make your collection or fundraiser more successful but will help knock down some of the age old hunger stereotypes and build additional activists!

See - two birds, one stone!
